How do I purchase a digital edition subscription?
You can sign up for a digital subscription by clicking here for an online form or call us at 800-900-7594, weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
What does a subscription to the digital edition cost?
The cost of a one-year (8-issue) digital only subscription is equal to that of a print only subscription within the US: $28. A digital only subscription price is $28 no matter what country you reside, unlike the print only magazine subscription which has to charge higher fees outside the US due to extra postage costs.
Can I get both a print and digital subscription? What does that cost?
Yes, Brew Your Own offers a combination print and digital subscription for an additional $5 per year to the standard print only subscription price for your country. You can sign up for a print-digital subscription by clicking here. Or call us at 800-900-7594, weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
Can I convert my existing print subscription to a digital subscription, or can I add digital to my existing print subscription?
Yes, you can convert your current print only subscription over to a digital only subscription for the remainder of its term at no cost. Or you can choose to upgrade to a combination print-digital subscription for an extra fee. Please email our subscription department at This email address is being protected from spambots. After you have completed your order, please sign into your account by clicking here with your email address and password just set up with our subscription department. Click on "View Digital Issues" in the left column and then the cover image of the digital issue that appears to activate your new digital subscription. You can now view your first issue on any device we support.
Can I purchase just a single copy of the digital magazine?
Yes, single digital issues are available to purchase for $4.99 each only through the Apple iPad and iPhone apps. At this time there is not the ability to purchase single issues through Android or Amazon device apps. Each time we publish a new digital issue, it goes into the Apple archive with a single-copy purchase option. Before purchase, you can access the Table of Contents of any single issue by hitting “Preview” on the issue. The archive goes back to the first issue we loaded in a digital format: May-June 2012.
Can I sample an issue?
Once you have downloaded the iPad or iPhone apps, the May-June 2012 issue is currently free to download. At this time we are not able to offer a free sample of the May-June 2012 issue through the Android and Amazon apps.
Will Brew Your Own offer back issues of the digital magazines?
No, we have no plans to load issues earlier than the May-June 2012 issue.
Can I give digital subscriptions as a gift?

How do I view a digital issue on my PC or Mac computer?
After you sign up for a digital subscription, log into your account by clicking here with your email and password previously set up with our subscription department. Click on "View Digital Issues" in the left column and then on the cover image of the issue you want to view.
How do I view a digital issue on my mobile device like a tablet or phone?
Reading Brew Your Own digital issues on mobile devices all require specific Brew Your Own apps for the best viewing.
Apple: The app is a free download in the iTunes store. For the iPad app, click here. For the iPhone app, click here. You can also search for “Brew Your Own” in the iPad store and search “Brew Your Own Mobile” in the iPhone store.
Android: The app is a free download through the Google Play store. For the Android tablet and phone app, click here. You can also search for “Brew Your Own Magazine” in at https://play.google.com/store.
Amazon for Android: The app is a free download through the “Amazon app store for Android app” that you will need to download first.
How do I view a digital issue on an Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble Nook?
The digital editions are natively accessible through web browsers on both Kindle and Nook mobile devices. You will need to use the browser on your Kindle or Nook to log in with your email and password previously set up with our subscription department to view your issues by clicking here. Click on "View Digital Issues" in the left column and then on the cover image of the issue you want to view. You must be connected to the internet while viewing issues on a Nook or Kindle browser since issues on these devices can't be downloaded for offline viewing at this time.
What do the Apple and Android apps do?
The Brew Your Own apps allow subscribers to view the exact same content as the print version, optimized for a variety of mobile devices as well as traditional computers. In this way you can enjoy the same periodical delivery as print subscribers in this new electronic medium. You will be able to search terms, link directly to web addresses and much more in the digital format.
What is the User ID and password?
When you subscribe through www.byo.com, you will be asked to enter your email address and set a password. SAVE THAT DATA as this will be your log-in credentials that will unlock universal access to viewing the issues across all devices we now support.
How do I create log-in credentials?
When purchasing a subscription, you just need to enter your email address and this will be your User ID moving forward. You can enter whatever you like for your password. Should I register when purchasing single copies through iTunes?
Yes, we recommend that you register for several reasons. First, if you register and set a login and password, that will enable you to view your issues on either the iPhone or iPad, as well as on your desktop computer. Otherwise, your issues will only be viewable on the device through which you made the initial purchase.
Secondly, registration of an iTunes purchase identifies you to the publisher so that we may send renewal notices and other special offers via email, and it establishes a more traditional publisher/reader relationship.
How do I know when a new issue arrives?
If you have purchased a digital subscription you will receive notification via email.
Can I get access to the full digital archive earlier than my subscription’s starting issue?
Only if you purchase those issues as single copies through one of our Apple apps.
So the digital subscription works with all the listed mobile devices and my Desktop computer?
Yes. The login credentials for your digital subscription will also allow you to view the issues you have purchased on an iPhone, iPad, Android tablets and mobile devices as well as Amazon Kindles when using the apps mentioned earlier and on your desktop computer.
What’s the best way to view each issue?
For iPad and iPhone users, you are better off downloading an issue directly to your device since online viewing can be much slower. For all other devices including Android, Kindle and Nook, issue downloads are not available at this time and wireless signals are better for viewing issues than 3G or 4G.
iPad and iPhone Downloading and Auto-Lock
To ensure that your download of a given issue is not disrupted by the device’s sleep function, turn-off your sleep functions on your iPad or iPhone until your download is complete. And always download over wireless rather than 3G or 4G if possible. At this time, only iPad and iPhone support downloading issues for offline viewing.
How do I bookmark articles or "Add Favorites"?
You can add favorite articles to an archive by tapping the upper right hand corner of any article. Tag the story with any additional information in the pop-up window, and then find them all in the My Favorites section of the Menu button at the bottom of any page.
How do I close and restart the App on an Apple device?
Closing and restarting the app will sometimes solve problems you may be encountering. To close, double click on the home button. All open apps will appear at the bottom of the screen. Hold your finger on any one of them until they all begin to wobble, indicating that they are now active. Tap the minus sign (-) on the app icon, and that app will close. Click the home button again to deactivate all open issues. Reopen your app by tapping it on the home screen.
