Baby Barrel Pils
5 gallons, all-grain; OG = 1.052; FG = 1.012
- 7 lbs. German pils malt
- 0.5 lbs. carapils malt
- 0.5 lbs. wheat malt
- 2.5 oz. Ultra hops (3% alpha acid): 0.5 oz. for 120 min., 1 oz. for 20 min., 1 oz. for 10 min.
- 1 oz. Hallertauer hops (4.2% alpha acid) for 5 min.
- 1.5 oz. Saaz in whirlpool
- Danish lager yeast
- 3/4 cup corn sugar for priming
Step by Step:
Mash in with 2.5 gal. of water at 150° F for 90 min. Sparge with 170° F water to collect 5.25 gal.
Bring to a boil and add 0.5 oz. Ultra hops. Total boil is 120 min. Boil 100 min. and add 1 oz. Ultra. Boil 10 min. more and add 1 oz. Ultra. Boil 5 min. more and add 1 oz. Hallertauer. Boil 5 min. more. Remove from heat, add Saaz, and cover for 10 min. Remove hops, cool, and aerate. Pitch yeast at 48° F.
Ferment seven to 10 days.
Transfer to secondary and condition at 32° F for six to eight weeks.
Prime with corn sugar, bottle, and allow to carbonate at least seven days. This beer has a massive hop aroma!
