Our club, Lancaster Fairfield Homebrew Crew, is fairly new being almost two years old. We have had two Big Brew Days since our start and the second was way more successful than the first.
When I first started thinking about planning a Big Brew day (First Saturday in May) for our club, I knew the big thing would be to have a water source for chilling or brew water. Also we would need space to all set up and I thought it would be cool to have it somewhere that non brewers would see us and ask what we were doing and maybe learn or get into brewing themselves. As we learned there are other things to consider as well.
Our first event was held at a local golf course that had a new pub serving craft beers along with food and golf. I asked the manager if we could set up outside. That way we would have plenty of space and would be easily noticeable. They provided a hose for our watersource and we were set outside on a beautiful day.
We only had 7 members our first year with only two of us brewing that day. But we made the most of it and had several members stop and check out what was going on. We also had several golfers and people visiting the pub asking questions and interested in how beer was made. So our first event was rather small but went well and taught us how to do the next one better....
